Kim Kardashian Marilyn Monroe Dress

Kim Kardashian Marilyn Monroe Dress

This dress that Kim Kardashian recently wore to her birthday party has Marilyn Monroe written all over it! Sure, it’s the colour and style of one of the most famous dresses in history (a white halter-top with a flowing skirt), but there are also some pretty strong similarities in construction and design. Let’s look at how this new creation compares with Monroe’s iconic piece, what it says about how fashion repeats itself, and how trends come full circle!

Kim Kardashian’s Marilyn Monroe Dress: A History

In 1954, the legendary actress Marilyn Monroe wore a dress designed by Jean Louis for the filming of The Seven Year Itch. Kim Kardashian recreated this iconic dress at the 2011 Emmy Awards. In 2013 she played it again, this time in pink, for her Vogue cover shoot. She said this was one of her favourite dresses and loved how feminine it felt. She also said that when people looked at her, they didn’t look like she was famous but like she was just some girl.

The Meaning Behind the Dress

In the early 1950s, when Marilyn Monroe was at the peak of her fame and fresh from a runaway success in Niagara, she was summoned to Hollywood by studio executives who wanted her to star in a musical comedy called Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. They wanted her to be blonde, so she agreed and dyed her hair. She also had an idea for an image that would define her: platinum-blonde hair, red lips and a white dress that showed plenty of skin. She said I thought it was time to stop being Little Miss Innocent. So I started wearing clothes which showed off my figure.

Marilyn’s iconic white dress in this film is displayed at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.

Why Kim Kardashian’s Marilyn Monroe Dress is a tribute to an icon?

Many different versions of the dress have been reported to exist. The first photo was taken by an X17 photographer and was used on their website to promote their services. The second photo is a screenshot of the dress from the video footage of Kanye West’s speech at the 2015 Met Gala. This photo has been circulating online due to its controversial nature, as it appears not to be digitally edited but rather a photograph of an actual dress that has not yet been digitally manipulated. The third photo is a screenshot from Kim Kardashian’s Snapchat account, posted on April 24th at 10:54 pm EST with the caption Marilyn. It was confirmed that this dress was gifted by Givenchy Haute Couture creative director Riccardo Tisci for Kim’s birthday in 2015.

Kim Kardashian Looks Flawless in Her Marilyn Monroe Dress

Kim Kardashian stunned in her new dress, a replica of the one Marilyn Monroe wore in The Seven Year Itch. The ivory dress was designed by Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing and is part of the Balmain x H&M collection that will be available for purchase online and in stores starting November 2nd.

Furthermore, the dress featured a pleated skirt, a fitted bodice with a low neckline, and elbow-length sleeves. She paired it with nude heels and styled her hair into an updo.

Kim Kardashian Dazzles in Marilyn Monroe-Inspired Dress

Kim Kardashian was the show-stopper on the red carpet at Paris Fashion Week last night. The reality TV star attended the Givenchy Fall/Winter 2018 show wearing a black and white striped dress with a cut-out bodice that revealed her bra and cleavage. She completed the look with an oversized black hat, a quilted coat, and lace-up shoes. Kim’s inspiration: Marilyn Monroe.

Kim Kardashian Is Channelling Marilyn Monroe In This Figure-Hugging Dress

On Sunday, Kim Kardashian was quite the vision in a figure-hugging dress at the Versace show in Milan, Italy. The 34-year-old reality star’s black and white gown featured a low neckline and an empire waist. The piece is strikingly similar to one of Marilyn Monroe’s most iconic dresses: a black halter dress with a high neckline, which she wore to President John F. Kennedy’s inaugural ball in 1961.

Final Thought

Kim Kardashian’s latest dress is a copy of the iconic gown worn by Marilyn Monroe for her wedding to Joe DiMaggio. The dress, which Balmain Paris designer Olivier Rousteing designed, might have been just another in a long line of celebrity dresses copied from other celebrities. Still, it’s worth mentioning because it is blatant, and the resemblance is uncanny. Kim said on her website that original sketches of the famous dress inspired the design team at Balmain and me. But if you look back at those initial sketches, there are some key differences. For example, in the original drawing, there’s a circular cut-out under the bust area with more fabric covering the chest area.
