What is ITIL?

History of ITIL

A management system for ITIL was originally developed in 1984 and is now published by the British Computer Society. Based on its membership, this body oversees all activities related to developing and publishing this Management System. ITIL has also become one of the most widely used frameworks for IT service management worldwide. It was originally designed to provide a set of best practice models that organizations could customize and tailor for their needs. In recent years, it has been expanded to provide governance and risk frameworks and new methodologies such as Service Design and Release Management.

What is the ITIL 4 guiding principles?

ITIL 4 is divided into two parts, management practices, and service management. There are also main guiding principles in ITIL 4. They are: 

– Use of a common language and model of ITIL to increase understanding 

– Optimization of costs 

– Clear, consistent, and concise management 

Simplification wherever possible to reduce complexity. Continual improvement in the quality and effectiveness of services (including through engagement with clients) by ensuring continual review and improvement. This also requires managers to improve their performance and that of others they work with daily.
