In this article, we will talk about the Golden State Warriors history and their roster.

History of Golden State Warriors

Golden State Warriors was founded in 1946. They were initially based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The team relocated to San Francisco in 1962 and Oakland, California, in 1971. In 1971, the team’s name was changed to Golden State Warriors from San Francisco Warriors. The Golden State Warriors won their first NBA championship in 1974 with a 4-0 sweep over Washington Bullets and recorded their second one two years after beating Seattle Supersonics 4-1. The franchise had a historic moment in 1975 when they signed player Rick Barry away from rivals Houston Rockets, who had won consecutive championships in 1973 and 1974.
Barry led the Warriors to the playoffs for nine consecutive seasons between 1976 and 1984, leading them to a title win in 1975. He is also remembered as one of the best players of his time who led the Golden State Warriors during that time.
In 1989, head coach Don Nelson led this team to achieve ten straight playoff berths before he left following the 1990-1991 season.

2009–present: The Stephen Curry era

The Golden State Warriors are an American skilled basketball team based in Oakland, California. The Warriors contest in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a constituent of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. Founded in 1946, the Warriors initially played in Philadelphia before moving to San Francisco for the majority of their first decade. During that time, the team won five NBA Championships and established itself as one of the league’s most successful teams during a period known as the Golden Age.

In 1962, the franchise relocated to Oakland, where they currently play. Since 1971, the team has only missed the playoffs four times. Four decades later, during the 1990s and 2000s, the Warriors would again begin establishing themselves as one of the more successful teams in NBA history with six championships from 1990-1999, including three out of four while on ten different occasions having records no worse than 60 games: 1991-1992 at 63-19; 1996-1997 at 67-15; 2002-2003 at 59-23; 2007-2008 at 67-15; 2014–2015 at 67–15 and 2015–2016 73–9. Despite intense periods such as this, the Warriors were continually mired in mediocrity, either just making or barely missing the playoffs due to being unable to get past other Western powerhouses like the Spurs or Lakers.

They had experienced success against them for years. However, everything changed when rookie small forward Stephen Curry was drafted by the team in 2009, leading to what is now often called The Stephen Curry era. Curry finished runner-up for Rookie of the Year honors behind Blake Griffin of Oklahoma City Thunder but eventually received his due recognition after he led his team back from a 3–1 deficit against two-time defending champions Miami Heat in the 2012 NBA Finals, winning his first championship and earning Finals MVP honors.
