Georgia Satellites
The Georgia Satellites were an American rock band formed in 1980 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. They were composed of singer/guitarist Dan Baird (former lead singer of the 1970s Atlanta band The Atlanta Rhythm Section), bassist/singer Rick Price and drummer/singer Bill Church. They are best known for their song Keep Your Hands to Yourself and the follow-up single Battleship Chains from their first studio album, Georgia Satellites, released in 1986.
Beginnings
The Georgia Satellites are an American rock band formed in 1980 in Atlanta, Georgia. The band members are Dan Baird on lead vocals and guitar, Rick Richards on lead guitar and backing vocals, David Johnson on bass guitar and backing vocals, and Mauro Magellan on drums. The group’s name comes from Southern rock roots, originally known as the Hunter Satellites. In addition, the band’s first album was released in 1986 and was produced by Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads fame. It was a critical and commercial success, spawning the hit singles Keep Your Hands to Yourself and Battleship Chains.
Commercial Success
The Georgia Satellites were a commercial success from the start. Their first album, The Georgia Satellites, was released in 1986 and went platinum. The album featured the hits Keep Your Hands to Yourself and Battleship Chains, reaching the top five on the Billboard charts. The band’s follow-up album, In the Land of Salvation and Sin, was also successful, reaching gold status. The band continued to tour and release albums throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s but disbanded in 1995.
Break Up
Formed in the early 1980s, the Georgia Satellites were a part of the Southern rock scene that was developing at the time. The band had a string of hits in the late 1980s with songs like Keep Your Hands to Yourself and Battleship Chains. They continued to tour and release albums through the 1990s before breaking up in 2006. Since then, the band has reunited for a few hours and released a new album in 2014.
Reunion Tour

The band’s final album, In the Land of Salvation and Sin, was released in 1990. The group disbanded shortly after that. Lead singer Dan Baird then pursued a solo career with cousin Roy G. Biv; founding member Rick Richards continued his songwriting and session work, while Johnny Jones started a landscaping company called Get’n It Green; drummer Rick Price became a music teacher at Lassiter High School in Marietta, Georgia; bassist Keith Christopher ran a paint store in Smyrna called Color Works Paint Store until he retired in 2015; keyboardist Dean Daughtry went back to college and obtained his degree in computer science while playing gigs with various local bands; percussionist John Fogg went into real estate sales.
